Safety Plan

YAAPP Programs

The Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program is a project of Family Crisis Services, the domestic violence agency for Cumberland & Sagadahoc counties. YAAPP offers educational, theatrical presentations to schools and community groups on dating violence. We believe dating violence is caused by power imbalances in our society.

HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
“The Jake and Caroline Play” features our presenters acting out a relationship in which the boyfriend is emotionally, sexually, and physically abusive. After the performance, presenters provide education about the dynamics of dating violence and how to have healthy relationships. Students leave with information on warning signs, how to intervene, safety planning and local resources. These presentations are performed in high school classes, residential group homes, and youth centers.

COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS
YAAPP presents dating violence information in college classes and as part of Residential Advisor training. YAAPP will tailor their presentations to the college’s needs.

FACULTY & STAFF TRAININGS
These trainings are strongly encouraged for all schools, but especially schools new to our programs. Trainings support and educate faculty and staff about dating violence with information on how to identify abusive behavior, how to intervene, community resources, and how to create a safe school environment. High School Youth Educators often present with YAAPP staff, bringing students’ perspectives to the topics discussed in the training.

YOUTH ADVOCATE PROGRAM
Our youth advocates facilitate educational support groups for youth to create safe, supportive, and empowering environments within their high schools.

OTHER PRESENTATIONS
YAAPP offers community presentations, parent presentations, and conference workshops on dating violence. Our Program is constantly growing and changing, so if your venue needs are not represented in this brochure, please call to find out if we can be of assistance to you.
